OCA Treasurer - Norbert A. Hartmann, Jr.
I moved to Oregon in 1969 after completing my education at Texas A & M University. Since moving to Oregon, I have had three very interesting careers. I was an assistant professor in the Statistics Department at Oregon State University, a Research Statistician for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and most recently, a Product Engineering Manager at Hewlett Packard Company in Corvallis. After 24 years with H-P, I retired in June 2005 and now able to focus on our ranch operation.
I was fortunate to meet my wife, Eileen, while teaching at OSU. We were married in 1973 and in 1977; we moved to the Airlie area in Polk County and got involved with livestock. In 1988, we moved to our present home in the hills west of Monmouth, where we have raised cattle, hay and grass seed.
I have been active in the Polk County Livestock Association, where I am currently President, and a member of the Oregon Cattlemen's Association since the early 1980's. I have served the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association as the chairman of the Scholarship Committee, District VII Vice President, represented the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association with the Oregon Beef Council. My involvement has demonstrated my commitment to the industry. Additionally, I am a member of the Polk County Fair Board and I am President of the Oregon 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees.
The changing political arena has given all of us the opportunity to work through challenging issues. These have included such topics as private property rights, renewable resources, environmental concerns, and many others. I am looking forward to serving Oregon Cattlemen’s Association as Treasurer and I would ask you to help me as we move the Oregon Cattlemen's Association into the future.
