February 17, 2012. Salem, Oregon – Today, HB 4158, sponsored by Representative Cliff Bentz and 13 other state representatives and senators passed the House floor in a 42-15 vote. Kay Teisl, Executive Director of the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association, issued the following statement.

 “The Oregon Cattlemen’s Association is pleased to witness the passage of HB 4158 by the House of Representatives. This bill is an important piece of Oregon’s Wolf Management Plan and affirms the work that went into the creation of the plan. This plan was a consensus driven process that was based on the best available scientific research in the field of wolf conservation. Affirming the authority of the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife to implement this plan, which is the intent of HB 4158, is an important step in Oregon’s professional, science based management strategy at the local level.

 We thank Representative Bentz for his leadership on this issue. We look forward to working with the Senate on this bill to allow Oregon’s Wolf Management Plan to resume implementation for the benefit of wildlife and livestock in Oregon.”

 The bill will now move to the Senate for hearing and consideration.
