Oregon Cattlemen's Association
What Does It Do For You?
Here are a few of the things the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association has been doing to help ALL cattle & livestock producers:
Staff and officers attended numerous county cattlemen’s meetings to provide updates and discuss current OCA efforts and successes
Promote and sponsor educational opportunities for producers such as Cattlemen’s College and Ranch Succession Planning Workshops
Worked to get the date of eligibility for disaster payments for livestock and livestock feed losses extended to include losses through Dec. 31, 2007
Offers grant packaging services to members applying for the USDA Value Added Producer Grant
Participates in OR Dept. of Ag. CAFO meetings to discuss air and water quality issues and informs members about what to do during EPA inspections
Working to increase funding for Wildlife Services predator control and maintain the availability of tools such as the M-44 and Livestock Protection Collars that assist in mitigating damage
Promotes producer image through projects to inform the public about cattle production and how ranchers are enriching our environment by being good stewards of the land
Nominates Oregon producers for state and national board appointments and Oregon ranches for national awards
Sponsoring a young rancher (ages of 25-50) to represent Oregon at the 2008 Young Cattlemen’s Conference & Tour. The tour promotes leadership and includes a comprehensive overview of the beef industry with stops in several states between Denver and Washington, D.C.
Supports a competitive college scholarship fund available to all members and their families
Established Oregon Cattle PAC to provide endorsements exclusively from Oregon cattle producers
Have a political advocate working daily at the Oregon State Legislature promoting and protecting the interests of cattle producers
Working to expand the Land Owner Preference Program to help compensate for wildlife damage on private property
Works diligently to protect Oregon’s water laws and the rights of property owners
Working to ensure the Oregon Sustainable Agriculture Resource Center does not become a regulatory program with enforcement by the government
As you can see OCA is NOT a "one or two" issue organization. It is dedicated to deal with a multitude of issue simultaneously in order to allow producers - large & small -East & West - to produce. OCA can only do this with memberships and leadership. We pull together or we pull apart! Please consider supporting our efforts by joining today.
